Prior to 2012, trademarks could only be protected in Grenada though prior UK Registered trademarks, the limitation being that trademarks would only be afforded protection in Grenada if they were previously registered in the United Kingdom.
With the advent of the Trademark Act 2012, Grenada adopted a comprehensive
Trademark framework which allows for the facilitation of international trademark protection requirements, affording protection for collective, certification, series and service marks in Grenada, according to the NICE International Classification of Goods and Services.
Unique to the Caribbean trademark registration process, the 2012 Trademark Act allows for the expedited examination of trademark registration applications, which when combined with the 3-week opposition period, provides the option for a ‘fast track’ trademark registration process in Grenada.
